One Reason Why I'm Glad I'm in Scotland...

America is stupid.

I guess I should clarify that: those people in America who vote on American Idol are stupid. I'm a few days behind, but I just watched the results from this week and I am not happy. Not happy at all. The biggest cheater is still there, and should have gone home this week for sure. Her performance was awful. Seriously. But who did America send home? This guy:

Why? Why send him home when he's clearly one of the better ones? He was in my top five, for sure... and I'm pretty confused about what went wrong here. What is America thinking? It doesn't make sense to me, and this show (in my limited experience, since this is only the second season I've followed) always seems to have at least one of these upset votes. It was a shock for lots of people-- judges, fellow contestants, audience-- and not just for me. But man. He's really good. And seems like a genuinely nice fellow. His song choice for this week may have hurt him a tad, and of course this show is as much a popularity contest as a talent one (case in point: Sanjaya last year...). But still. So for what my opinion is worth: America, you got it very, very wrong. And if he puts out an album, I'd buy it.

I realise many of you will think this post is a cop-out, just to get my one a week in. I guess it is partly... but still. Take what you can get. =D

When I vote, I vote only for one or two top favorites. I have never voted for Carly Smithson, and I hate the idea of a semi-pro getting on. It's much less romantic than a rags to riches story like Fantasia's, which is a true American story. Anyway, as for the guy who got booted, he seemed nice enough, but I just didn't see myself buying his album, and for some reason, I just felt like he was disconnected from his audience in some way...maybe it was his accent??? I don't know. I haven't seen the latest episode, so I'll watch the DVR tonight!

I think the main reason he was booted was because he was the most mature one there. If you think of the demoagraphics of the "main" voters it is teen girls and they probably couldnt relate to him much, even though us who appreciate talent not just a "pretty face". Bah! I think they should have done like last year, doubled the votes and let the bottom two leave next week. But what do we know, they are letting cheaters with experience in the industry in the competition to begin with so it really has you wondering if there is a "rig" in this or not! What can I say though, only one of my favs has ever made it, and they never mention him anymore...

Well, I haven't followed this season as closely as last season, partly because I'm not there to watch it with you. But I was surprised at this week's result too. But I agree it may be because he didn't appeal to the younger demographic.
As I said, I haven't followed this season very closely - who's the biggest cheater? Haven't heard anything about that!

Damn, I just watched that clip again and I am gonna really miss him. Michael Johns is a very talented singer.

I read your comment on Pioneer Woman and thought it was so... well, sad... then I read how you want to be a 'practical theologian'? What on earth is that? Seems to me you either follow the Bible or you don't.

I pray that you are blessed with healthy, happy children who adore all things... even sports... and that you actively encourage their passions.

God bless-
Amanda
